Contemporary Villa
Design & Implementation
Nestled in a gentle area in Khanke, Duhok, this contemporary villa marries modern minimalism with the rugged beauty of Iraqi Kurdistan. Clean, rectilinear, punctuated by large floor-to-ceiling glass panels that capture sweeping views over olive groves and distant peaks. Inside, the open-plan living spaces flow seamlessly from shaded outdoor terraces, where warm light filters through perforated screens inspired by traditional Mashrabiya patterns. Natural materials—timber floors, raw plaster walls, and exposed concrete surfaces—are tempered by touches of cool glass and crisp black metal. The villa’s design balances privacy and openness: cantilevered overhangs protect against summer heat, while deep-set windows and inner courtyards draw in breezes and soften the harsh sun. The result is a private retreat that feels both grounded in its landscape and boldly of its time.
